While everyone older is fussing about how health care is, the youth sector seems to have done away with the whole idea. Or have they, really? Americans from 19 to 29 are the most who don’t have medical insurance but they do have their reasons.
CNN cites that for some, it’s a case of not being able to afford private health care. Too old to be covered by parents’ policies, too able to qualify for public health care. Quite a frustrating position to be in. Those actually needing medical care are forced to pay for expensive medicine and services out of pocket.
Out of 46 million not covered by any policy, the youth sector comprises 13.2 million of it. Other statistics from a 2007 Census:
Children under 19: 11 percent
Ages 30-35: 23 percent
Ages 36-49: 17 percent
Ages 50-64: 13 percent
The Obama administration considers this as one of the problems that it needs to address channeling $634 billion for health care reforms.
