Toyota PriusToyota is the big dog when it comes to the auto industry and it wants to keep things the way they are. With the fall of the Detroit Three, only the Europeans stand a good chance to topple the Japanese giant from its place.

However, Korean automaker Hyundai has proven that it can take the fight to any other automaker if they want. Their successful North American marketing campaign helped them trounce Ford as the world’s fourth largest automaker and shame all the other automakers by actually profiting despite the sales crash.

And that’s even overseas. In its home turf, Hyundai and affiliate Kia control 81% of the market. Toyota only controls 43% of the Japanese market and that includes Daihatsu and Hino marquees.

Now, Toyota wants to prove that Hyundai still has to grow bigger balls to take the big dog on. As if believing in the philosophy of the best defense is a good offense, Toyota seeks to eat away at Hyundai’s home market share. Toyota rolled out the Prius,, the Camry and RAV4 in five dealerships in Korea.

This should be an interesting tussle.
