Splurging on stuff that you want can give you the satisfaction at that point in time but you might want to observe if such stuff can give you satisfaction for the longer term.
I’ve personally observed that quite a lot of my purchases that I consider “rewards” for myself after months of grueling work have all accumulated to become clutter in my home.
There’s the piles of books that I never really got to read cover to cover. There’s the stack of DVDs that I haven’t really gotten to watch. There’s the guitar that I haven’t played for more than a year.
The best purchases are those that actually become assets. At the very least, those that you buy for leisure should up your mood for a longer period. If not, then they just become wastes of money and a wastes of space.
So before splurging, ask yourself how long your purchase will be able to put a smile on your face.
Try to survey your home and check how many items are just cluttering your space and serve you no real value aside from the kick you got from buying it.
If you want to declutter your home and earn while doing it, start an inventory and prepare for a garage sale.
