The recent job data doesn’t say anything good for the ordinary American as unemployment have breached double-digits in several states leaving many to ask, “Where are the jobs promised to us by the stimulus plan?”
President Obama reassures the public that his $787 billion plan will indeed create 600,000 jobs this summer as funding would spur on projects. The social services sector is seen as the immediate beneficiary for these jobs.
The projects the Obama administration pointed to included maintenance projects at military bases, 1,600 state road and airport improvement projects, and money to hire 135,000 school teachers and support staff
Overall, the stimulus plan should create 3.5 million jobs according to the president. He claims that, so far, 150,000 jobs have been saved by the stimulus plan. However, since the passage of the plan, 1.6 million people have lost their jobs.
