With unemployment still a huge issue, it’s a no-brainer that those who were able to keep job are lucky never mind if those jobs are actually dead-end ones. Better to have a lousy job than no job at all.
It really takes a glass-half-full kind of guy to see opportunities in this economy. Shifting careers in a high-risk environment isn’t really advisable but for those who are unlucky to lose their jobs, unemployment can finally be the opportunity to start doing what they love.
Even in a stable economy, most would go for the “safe” nine to five jobs even if the work is boring and not really what they really wanted to do. And for some, being booted out of these jobs was actually start of better things.
For some it was a chance to enter freelance and start businesses like consulting, writing, and entrepreneurship.
I got an acquaintance who entered iPhone app development after his project got canned and he’s earning more than what his old boss used to make. Another started out his online store dealing collectibles after spending years with a bank.
