Don’t have kids until you can afford them

Dorel Baby CarrierIf you’re part of the younger generation, and have that whole “emo” bullcrap vibe feeling that you’re not worth a million dollars, think again.

Factoring inflation, your parents would have spent/ will be spending around a million dollars to raise you and send you to college. Now if you’re a couple wanting to have kids, be sure to keep this in mind before you decide to get her off the pill.

I’ve got a few friends who thought that having a baby would be really cool and cute and would like to finally get wed and be independent. Not factoring in finances, they decided to get married just after college. Not long after, they were expecting.

With the wife at home due to a delicate pregnancy, and the man earning a meager rank and file desk job, they soon find out that the trips to the doctor for check ups alone were draining their finances that they had to ask their folks for help. So much for trying to strike it out on their own.

And that’s just even before the kid’s out of the womb. Childbirth expenses aren’t exactly cheap these days as well. Afterwards, there’s postnatal care. Cost of living for another person. Pre-school. Schooling. Allowances. The occasional sickness. And one of the biggest expenses of all – college.

Do the math and you really have to factor a kid in. So before you do the nasty with the wifey later, just be sure that you’re really ready to have a kid. Financially. Mentally. Spiritually.
