Now here’s an interesting thing going on. Large retailers are now trimming brands from their shelves. So if you’re the type who wouldn’t go for the best selling brands and settle for the lesser known brand for some quirky reason, you might not be able to see that in shelves.
Wal-Mart, for example, has removed Glad and Hefty storage bags from shelves only to replace them with cheaper store brand. So that’s what they get for not being Reynolds. Hefty, however, claims that Wal-Mart will bringing the brand back.
And it’s not Wal-Mart who’s doing this. Drug chains like CVS and Walgreens, stores like Kroger and Target are also looking into a leaner brand lineup.
Wal-Mart claims that the overly extended product lines are just creating more confusion for their consumers rather than prompting people to buy. It’s true though. How many time have you tried to go through all of the flavors and variants of shampoo or toothpaste?
