For many of us who rely on a steady paycheck for money, it does help if you can further secure that stability by being an asset to the organization for which you work. In today’s environment where there is increased collaboration and teamwork, it’s necessary then, to be a good team member. There is much premium given to being the guy everyone likes when the performance appraisals come.

Productivity blogger Alexandra Levit highlights four ways to be a good team member:

  • Be good at the job
  • Be well networked
  • Be a problem solver
  • Be willing to get hands dirty
  • Be respectful

Great pieces of advice. Being productive and proactive would definitely make anyone an integral part of the team. A caveat though, being the team’s star might hurt others’ egos as well. So you have to work on your people skills. Being respectful is just one part of the equation. You also have to try to be likable. Ever met those people who are just plain likable. Being a good member of a team also demands that.
