So Exxon’s the new king of the Fortune 500 list (a ranking of America’s top 500 companies ranked by revenue). In other Fortune 500 news, Apple jumps 32 spots to find itself among the top-earning 100 companies.
Apple saw strong sales and stock prices in 2008 and with those, Apple made its first appearance on the top since taking Steve Jobs back at 71st place. Apple aslo got some help from the economic downturn with several companies dropping ranks as well. Revenue soared 35.3% to $32.479 billion last year.
Apple fell out of contention when they got rid of Steve Jobs and Jobs was running NeXT. Apple only made its way back in 2005 into the list – almost a decade since Job got his job back.
The recession affected US tech companies greatly though the other big names are still ranked higher with Hewlett-Packard at 9th, Dell at 33rd, and Microsoft at 35th places.
