10 biggest job interview blunders

Posted by Alex as Work

Office SpaceYou’ve lost your former job. And maybe adding insult to injury, you also can’t get any job even if you’re sure you’re pretty much qualified for it. Perhaps there are just people more qualified than you are, or maybe it’s because you botched the interview.

Anne Fisher gives us the 10 biggest job interview blunders. You may want to take note of these:

1. You don’t ask for the job. Tell them what you can deliver and ask them for the opportunity to prove it.

2. You don’t set yourself apart from the others. Sell your unique and strong points. Make sure you give quantifiable examples of your achievements,

3. You don’t practice enough. Interview questions aren’t that difficult to answer, but only if you are prepared for them. Practice.

4. You don’t tell the truth. Just state what you can do and don’t stretch the truth. They’ll know if you’re overdoing it.

5. You don’t listen enough. Instead on focusing on what you want to say, listen to the interviewer so you can say what you need to say.

6. You don’t research enough. Learn more about your potential employer. Nothing sucks more when they ask you what you know about the company and you merely sweat on your seat.

7. You don’t seem excited enough. Show your enthusiasm (in moderation, of course). How will they hire you if you seem to have been forced to apply for the job.

8. You don’t seem personable enough. You are competing against hundreds, perhaps even thousands of candidates. Show them your individuality. Give them a bit of personality to know that they’re hiring a human being and not a robot.

9. You don’t seem to get over your former job. Stop whining. Past is past.

10. You don’t seem to now when to stop. On being defensive on how you lost your former job, that is. State the reason if asked, but focus on what you cam do for this employer instead.
